Bitter, discordant, and relentless; Naarm-based blackened sludge/doom band ISUA return to the stage with their highly anticipated debut album ABANDON – an ode to forfeited hope. Since the release of their debut EP “I” in late 2021, ISUA have shown exponential growth in their sonic identity and unceasing work ethic. Turning heads with the fire-breathing release and an impressive schedule of touring, quickly solidifying the Melbourne/Naarm five-piece as an indomitable force and one of the country’s most cherished heavy acts.
ABANDON - a live-recorded journey through five tracks of despairing reflection, ISUA continue their barrage of grinding doom, displaying a level of craftsmanship that is leaps and bounds forward, a testament to the band’s dedication to their relentlessly heavy sound and a culpable spirit within.
Joining ISUA for a powerful night of uncompromising doom and sludge are Goat Shaman, AGLO and PROKOP.
Hailing from the swamps of Victoria’s leafy east, Goat Shaman have been making a name for themselves within the heavy sludge scene since their inception in 2018. The band have steadily gone about building a loyal community following their debut self-titled EP in 2021 and unrelenting live performances both locally and interstate. Delivering a mixture of heavy riffs, searing guitar harmonies, thunderous drums and growling vocals, the four-piece are gaining a reputation within Australia’s heavy underground as one of the nastiest sludge bands to come from this island in the past 100 years.
Captain’s Log, Stardate: 47634.44. After a tumultuous period of infection with recorded lack of riffs available in a nearby cluster of planets, a strange entity has risen from the centre of a doomed star. This bizarre monolith, appropriately dubbed AGLO by the ship’s crew, has taken down-tuned guitars, slow hooks and death metal sensibilities, and infected the hearts and minds of all who enter its path. This log entry is a warning to all who come into contact with the beast, prepare yourself, there is a certain drive to worship at the altar of The Almighty Riff…resistance appears to be futile.
PROKOP is a symphonic fusion of gritty sound and richly-layered harmonies, galvanised by the sonorous rhythms of Doom Metal, PROKOP’s music is characterised by soaring vocals in a darkly ambient and textured soundscape. Their debut album, Gorse, explores the concept of opposites in a distorted metropolis. Honest glimpses of human fragility can be found within an emotionally intense and sometimes surreal soundscape.
ISUA acknowledges the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the land on which this event takes place. Indigenous sovereignty was never ceded.
