The Evelyn has been a part of Melbourne's cultural landscape for over 50 years since the D'Alessandro family purchased it back in 1968.
As new Australians Maria & Carlo D'Alessandro purchased the building, dreaming of having an Australian pub with an Italian twist. They hosted live Italian music on weekends and controversially had the first coffee machine in Fitzroy. The family that found a home at the little dark corner of Fitzroy. Since 1991 to date Maria (Matriarch), John and Ida (Son & Daughter) have held fast with a business ethos of family and art in all its forms. They strive to create a safe place for all walks of life. Whether you are a uni student, a punk or metalhead, a Fitzroy hipster or an out-of-towner looking for something you have never seen before - you are always welcomed with open arms under the Evelyn Hotel’s roof; to celebrate Evelyn's rich poignant story, or the will to foster future generations of talented artists in the years to come.
