Empress, Naarm-based electro-soul collective, announce the release of single “Holding Out”, hinting at a larger body of work to follow. They have been laying low since returning from the festival circuit over summer, however with band members departing the country for winter - they have decided to commemorate this release with an intimate final show before heading into winter hibernation. Having not played in their hometown since November, they are eager to get on stage for an intimate and stripped back show with their loyal community - remaining as electric as any Empress performance, but with a focus on music connection and atmosphere.
The evening will be filmed and recorded live, and they will be joined by the captivating and ever so talented Rara Zulu. Expect new music, new set design, new projections and new vibes - with the aim to reconnect with the local community and live music scene one last time before winter hits.
Empress’ sound consists of swirling vocal harmonies and captivating synth-based electronic dance grooves. Packed with wondrous sounds and intriguing sonic ideas, the six-piece collective is explosive and intricate in their musical output and live performances, and work to create safer platforms and opportunities for women, especially in the Melbourne electronic music scene where there seems to be an under-representation of female-fronted bands. Drawing from a wide-range of influences, varying from Tune Yards, Kimbra and Destiny's Child to James Blake, KAYTRANADA, Bjork and Dirty Projectors, Empress creates a distinct and diverse sound. Empress is warming up the room with one more final single “Holding Out”, a house-pop banger that is perfect for Autumn party listening set for release on May 11th.
