Join Naarm-Based singer songwriter Danika and her band on the 24th of March at the Evelyn Hotel, with supports from Hannah Mckittrick (Soak PBS) and Winten, to celebrate the release of her second EP ‘Down Love’ out on Friday 10 March.
Since moving to Naarm, Danika has received an abundant musical education singing backing vocals for prominent Australian Artists 30/70 collective, Allysha Joy, Sampa the Great, Tomgirl, Harmony Byne, and Emma Donovan and the Putbacks. The last few years have seen Danika make a name for herself. Led by striking voice and rich harmonies with inflections of soul, She draws audiences in through her genuine storytelling and has played a colourful array of festivals, including Strawberry Fields, Brunswick Street Music festival, Good Times Festival, Iso-laide, Adelaide’s Porch Sessions, Wonder Mountain Festival, Inward Goods Festival, Town Folk Festival and PBS’s Drive Live.
Never one to shy away from speaking hard truths with her voice and guitar, Danika faces honesty head-on with her most recent single ‘FYA’. After joining the WAT artists family and releasing singles ‘Coolshit Bullshit’ and ‘For My Baby’ in 2022, which combined saw Danika added to official Spotify playlists Indie Arrivals, Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds AU / NZ, Fresh Finds Folk, and Stay In Bed, ‘FYA’ is the third and final single lifted from her forthcoming EP Down Love,This collection of five works builds on a mix of experimental folk and alternative and atmospheric production techniques bringing life to the pent up feelings.
Produced by Nick Hererra (Grammy Nominated production for Hiatus Kaiyote), ‘Down Love’ sees Danika turn to music as a healing mechanism, carrying her truth through candid lyrics and captivating melodies. Enlisting once again the top-tier bass lines of Paul Bender (Hiatus Kaiyote), and layered percussion and drums by Naarm’s beloved experimental drummer Maria Moles, Danika’s lyrics lay in a bed of harmonies from her 16-piece female choir, (‘FYA’, ‘Better Weather’, ‘For My Baby’).
Live, Danika brings an easy charisma to the stage, inviting the audience into her world of both humour and joy, balanced with the sometimes weighty reflections of life’s experiences, artfully woven throughout the Lyrics. Harmony rich, her Live trio features Alex Roper on Drums and vocals, and Rosa Mercedes on Bass and vocals, and together they create a full and enraptured sound.
