Synthesising Soul, R&B and Pop flavours, Melbourne-based queer singer/songwriter Thorne creates dynamic and exciting content, colouring your pallet with soothing electronic sounds and grooveable beats. Born in Barbados and raised Guyana South America, Thorne is influenced by artists like, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and Jill Scott. Expect to be up on your feet dancing with dirty bass lines, catchy hooks and thoughtful lyrics. Thorne’s life experiences are expressed through his music, with his inner turmoil explored through honest lyrics. But don’t be fooled, he likes to get loose and have a good time too, even whipping out his signature sparkly pants on special occasions okay, every occasion.
Formed nearly two years ago, King River Rising are a 6 – 9 piece rhythmic powerhouse who push the boundaries of Reggae Rock while paying homage to the genre’s predecessors.
In full force, the band comprises of a three-piece horn section, three-part vocal harmonies, percussion, keys and a Rock band setup. With wailing soloists that can keep up with the pumping rhythm section, King River Rising’s sound is topped off by front man Ward Hancock’s unique style of songwriting – one that is influenced by both Jamaican and Islander Reggae, but also by the Indigenous Australian Reggae he grew up with living in Darwin.
Y A R A is a palestinian singer/songwriter based in Melbourne city. With heavy influence from Amy winehouse, Lianne La Havas and Snoh Aalegra, Y A R A’s smooth sound is a melting pot of neo soul, R&B and jazz.
